Heel pain is a common foot problem. Pain usually occurs under the heel or just behind it, where the Achilles tendon connects to the heel bone. Sometimes it can affect the side of the heel.

What is Heel Pain?

Many people will experience some sort of heel pain in their lifetime. Heel pain has many causes (40!). We have put a list together that highlights a few of the most common causes of heel pain below. The most common being Plantar Fasciitis 

  1. Achillies Tendonitis/Tendonopathy 

  2. Bursitis

  3. Plantar fascial rupture

  4. Calcaneal fracture

  5. Nerve entrapment

  6. Sciatica 

  7. Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome 

  8. Inflammatory conditions (eg Rheumatoid Arthritis, SLE)


A Podiatrist will assess you to properly diagnose the cause of your heel pain. Once diagnosed, your podiatrist will treat you for the identified problem.
